Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany is the world’s largest party, and that’s saying a lot. 6 million people will jam giant beer halls from Sept. 21 to Oct. 6, 2013. Waitresses wearing traditional Bavarian dress bring beer steins to the thirsty crowds. The 16 day party has been going on since the 1810 wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen (try saying that after pounding down a couple of those giant steins)
The happy couple shared their big day with the whole town and they’ve been doing it every year since (with 28 exceptions for war and cholera.) Part of the tradition is that all beer served at the event has a 2% higher alcohol content than regular German beer. Also, all the beer has to be brewed within the city limits of Munich.
As you might expect from the Germans, it’s highly organized. They have a great web site with all the details, including last minute airfares.
If you can’t get to Munich, you can have your own Oktoberfest! That’s where Johnny-Sells can help! We have a great selection of genuine German Beer Steins.
So, fill your stein with an ice cold beer, sing a drinking song (this one’s not German, but I like it, so there you are) or two and raise a glass to toast the Crown Prince and Princess on their anniversary.
Take a look at all the great stuff at the Johnny-Sells Oktoberfest Sale!
