The Dog Days of Summer are the hottest days of the year. They are called that because the Romans worshiped the Dog Star, Sirius, believing that the star controlled the hot, sultry weather. Sirius rose with the Sun in Roman times during the hottest monthes.
The Romans believed that the Dog Days caused “the Sea to boil, the Wine to turn sour, Dogs grow mad, and all other creatures become languid.” The Romans did all sorts of horrible things to appease Sirius.
You can fight the effects of the Dog Days by staying in the air conditioning and shopping at the Johnny-Sells Dog Days Sale! Hundreds of name brand items are on sale at a fraction of what you would pay in a store.
Then, find a cool spot to be languid and pet a dog.
